How did a song written by a West Coast hip-hop group, a Catholic pop star and a French DJ become a Jewish anthem second only to the hora? You can find the whole list and accompanying essays here. Keeping this in mind for scheduling this semester, I gave myself more free time throughout the week by making two of my classes online, reminding myself of my boundaries and goals for growth.Inspired in part by all the Jewish artists on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs, the Forward decided it was time to rank the best Jewish pop songs of all time. Every person is different! I don’t know if it’s because I’m a senior or an introvert or if I genuinely enjoy asynchronous online classes, but I can’t imagine doing four in-person classes most days of the week like some of my friends (kudos to them because my social battery would run out). To say no, you also have to set boundaries for yourself and understand your needs. This means deciding which responsibilities you find the most important, rewarding, enjoyable, and valuable to your college experience and future. During these first few weeks of my last semester, I realized again that when you’re establishing a new routine, you have to prioritize how you want to use your time rather than jumping into things without reflection. However, someday you’ll probably hit a breaking point where you realize that you can’t keep up with the commitments you accepted and you’ll have to let some things go. Saying yes to opportunities is great as you’re gaining experience in a field you may be interested in or becoming active in something you’re passionate about. ![]() Remember that we are all here under the same red, white, and blue. Therefore, I encourage you to celebrate and embrace one another, not in spite of your differences but because of them. The fact that we have the freedom to lead different lives and be unique is what America is all about. Each person experiences life differently, and I think if they are happy with the life they lead then they are living the American Dream. ![]() That's the beauty of living in The United States. No matter who you ask, everyone is going to have their own idea of what exactly the American Dream is.Įveryone lives their own lives. ![]() If you ask an immigrant, the American Dream may be being able to be in a country where you do not have to live in constant fear. If you ask your best friend, they might say that you're living the American Dream when you've become a millionaire. If you were to ask your mother what the American Dream is, she may tell you that it is all about having a house, a family, and a good job. Why then do we try to put our fellow Americans in a box? Why do we seem to think that there is only one correct American Dream, and that if you're not living it you are not successful or happy? Without those who stood out and refused to accept what was being told of them, this wonderful country would not exist as it is right now. The United States became what it is today due to rebellion and differences. Those are “mazel tov” and “l’chaim” every non-Jew there goes berserk because they finally feel like they are connected to this culture by screaming these random words and all the Jews feel great because they’re finally being acknowledged in a good way in a pop culture reference. The reason it was played was because of 3 words that are mentioned throughout the song. It’s not because they ‘have a feeling’ that tonight’s gonna be a good night (might I just add if you have a feeling about something why on earth would it be played as the LAST SONG? The night was over the buses were coming to drop the preteens back off at the temple). I always wondered if anyone ever sat down and thought about why this song was played at every single Jewish celebration. It was like a wrap-up song, one that said “okay now, one last shot for the adults and one last weird grind for the kids” and then it would do its magic. ![]() This song played at every bat mitzvah and made the crowd go absolutely wild, obviously why it was always played last. *I ran this place* 2) I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas Actual footage of us dancing to "Shots" at my bat mitzvah, I remember it like it was yesterday.
